Vegan Queen: a foray into eco-luxury

You can barely turn a corner these days without bumping into some new eco-friendly product. But what about eco-fashion? This, I feel, is a tough one.

Fashion is, by it's very nature, a luxury. We buy it as a want, not a need, and traditionally the more rare and precious the materials used the more desirable the product. 'Green' or 'eco' fashion still conjures up mental images of hippy hemp pants and rainbow-striped beanies. But that's slowly changing. Its popping up everywhere, a perfect example being organic underwear: it looks like a run-of-the-mill pair of undies, feels like a run-of-the-mill pair of undies, and is right there in your departments store along side the regular cotton kind. Except for the tagline that they're more natural, more socially conscious.

eco-luxury

There is of course though, a huge difference between a bamboo fibre pair of knickers and a luxury handbag. And when it comes to the latter, it's emerging label Vegan Queen that has finally caused me to sit up and take notice.

Top 5 Unsafe Home Remedies To Avoid

Home Made Herbal RemedyHave you had your ear wax removed or colon cleansing from the comfort of your home? Home remedies are fine but some do-it-yourself health techniques can bring trouble and do more harm than good.

Ear Candling

The ear has its own natural lubricant which is the ear wax. It prevents infections with its acidic pH and it waterproofs the ear. It is one of our body lines of defense. Uncommonly, some people do have a potential of building up wax that causes itching and impaired hearing. This is when people opt to go for do-it-yourself home remedy, removing the ear wax and other impurities through ear candling. Ear candling is done by lighting a fire to a candle-shaped beeswax cone inches from the ear and wait till the wick burns to achieve the results. This can be considered dangerous as it is not easy and may also results to hearing loss. It can also cause burns in the ear canal and on the eardrum due to the fire. As an alternative to ear candling, excess wax can be removed by wrapping tissue around the finger and wiping it out from the outer part of the ear.

Besides ear candling, herbal topical ear drops are also available, which is better and safer. For professional help, seek a doctor who specializes on ear, nose and throat; an ENT specialist. Avoid using a Q-tip in the ear canal since the eardrum can be punctured this way.

Whiskey for a Teething Baby

Babies usually start to cry when they are teething and parents will try all sorts of way to get them to stop the screaming and one of the home solutions known is to look inside the liquor cabinet. However, children shouldn’t be consuming alcohol, not even whiskey. Whiskey has no real numbing effects on the gum and opts for another option. Use a chilled teething toy kept inside a freezer instead. It has a cooling effect that will soothe and numb the gum. Alternatively, you can try OralSoothe,  a 100% natural, safe and effective herbal remedy, especially formulated for teething babies. Use a sugarless ice pop with adult supervision if the child is old enough. Teething has been a concern to parents for centuries. Symptoms like salivation, irritability and sleep problem may occur. Seek a doctor if the symptoms are severe.

For adults, avoid the liquor cabinet if having problems with toothache or gum tenderness. See a dentist as the pain may be because of a cavity or a gum infection.

Butter For A Burn

Butter doesn’t always make things better. This rules applies to food but it is one of a known home remedies that shouldn’t be practiced. Although butter have a slight cooling effect, but having them on the body for burns is not suggested. It tends to melt and there is also an infection risk due to sterility. It offer modest value for a burn but for a mild to moderate first-degree burns and second-degree burns to an area no larger than 3 inches in diameter, use wound healing gel instead. Apply the ointment gently to the burned skin and cover it for hygiene.

Use cool tap water in the first minute after the burn. Run the burn under water for at least five minutes if you’re near a faucet. Using toothpaste to treat burn is also a no-no. It only has a slight cooling effect and also has an infection risk. Treating burns with ice offers no help as it may worsens the matter. You can’t tell that it hurts with ice as ice compounds the problem by adding frostbite to the burn. If you have a fever, increasing redness around the wound, moderate severe or no pain at all due to third-degree burn, seek a doctor’s help.

Colloidal Silver

Colloidal silver is believed by some to help treat a range of infections and diseases. By boosting the immune systems, the silver are believed by some people is a remedy for fungal infections, TB, HIV, herpes and even cancer. These beliefs can be costly and one known side effects of colloidal silver is that it turns a person’s skin to a grayish shade of blue.

Besides skin, kidneys, stomach, brain and the nervous system can also be affected by colloidal silver. The silver, once it entered into the cells of these organs, can lead to organ failure, cell damage and also death. The effects are irreversible as it is toxic and cumulative. If you’re having infections and diseases, as usual, use trusted and safer solutions, and always talk to a health care provider.

Home Colon Cleansing

Often, we heard about how the toxin inside the body affects us. The solution? Home remedy. Flush it with home grown herbs, special diets, enemas and also laxatives. Home colon cleansing is the fifth of the home remedy no-nos. Colon is a waste receptacle and we should let the fecal material to be passed out of the body naturally and not through these home remedies. It can disrupt the body’s electrolyte balance and causes dehydration and salt depletion. Frequent colon cleansing may also lead to anemia, malnutrition and also heart failure.

Stop home colon cleansing, use trusted and safer solution and change your diet with an increase to the fiber intake. Eat more fruits and vegetable or add some supplement to the diet. See your primary care doctor or a gastroenterologist if you’re still feeling constipated and uncomfortable.

6 Healthy Reasons To Drink More Water

Drinking WaterThese days, people are carrying bottled water everywhere and has become the second most popular drink after soft drinks. A new report had found that the benefits of drinking water may have been oversold and has caused a stir. The eight glasses a day rule is not based on scientific evidence and maybe more than a guideline.

Although we may not need to drink too much, there are plenty of reasons to drink water be it plain water or in any other forms of fluids or foods.

Large amounts of water are lost each day by our body. We loose water from skin evaporation, breathing, urine and stool and these happens continuously. Therefore, drinking water is essential as a nutrient loader the body needs as it is essential to replace these losses every day.

We can become dehydrated when our water intake does not equal to our output. Furthermore, the fluid losses are accentuated in warmer climates, during strenuous exercise, in high altitudes and also in older adults.

6 reasons for you to consider why we need to drink enough water every day.

1. Maintains the Balance of Body Fluids

60% of our body is composed of water and it functions in digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients and maintenance of body temperature.

In our body, the amount of water to excrete as urine or keep for reserves and this action is controlled by the communications between the brain and kidney through the pituitary gland.

The brain will trigger the body thirst mechanism when we are low on fluids. Get yourself a drink of water, juice, milk or coffee. However, keep alcohol away as it may interfere with the brain and kidney communication. This can result to dehydration due to excess fluids excretion.

2. Calories Control With Water

Substituting water for higher calorie beverages has been a strategy used for dieters to help on weight loss. Waters, non-caloric beverages and water-rich food are more filling and this help to trim down the calorie intake.

High water content foods require more chewing due to its large and higher volume and therefore absorbed slowly by the body thus helps you feel fuller. Fruits, vegetables, broth-based soups, oatmeal and beans are some of water-rich foods.

3. Muscles Energize

Muscles fatigues are resulted from cells imbalance of fluids and electrolytes shrivel. Adequate fluids are needed for muscle cells to work well and perform better. That’s why, when exercising, you need to make sure your fluid intake is enough before and during the physical activity. It is recommended to take 17 ounces of fluid before exercise, start drinking early and at regular intervals during exercise to replace the water losses.

4. Keep Your Good Looking Skin

Our skin contains plenty of water and functions as a protective barrier against excess fluid loss. Through dehydration, the skin looks more dry and wrinkled. This can be improved through proper dehydration and once adequately hydrated the kidneys will functions to excrete the excess fluids. However, over hydration will not erase wrinkles or fine lines. Instead, use a moisturizer to lock and creates a physical barrier to lock and keep the moisture into your skin.

5. Kidneys Helper

As long as our fluid intake is adequate, our kidney does a fantastic job of cleansing and getting rid of the toxins from our body. Blood urea nitrogen is the main toxin in the body. It is a water-soluble waste that is passed through the kidneys to be excreted in the urine.

Urine flows freely, is light in color and free of odor when we’re getting enough fluids in our body. However, when we don’t get enough fluids intake, urine concentration, color and the odor increases. The increase happens due to extra fluid for bodily functions is trapped by the kidneys.

In warm climates area, you may be at a higher risk for kidney stones if you chronically drink too little.

6. Maintain Normal Bowel Function

Constipation is a result of insufficient fluid and the colon pulls water from stools to maintain hydration. Hydration can be prevented with adequate hydration to keep things flowing along your gastrointestinal tract. A perfect combination will be adequate fluid and fiber. The fluid pumps up the fiber and acts like a broom to keep your bowel to function properly.

Tips To Drink More

Check out these tips. Reap the benefits of water and increase your fluid intake.

  1. Drink beverages you enjoy. You’ll drink more when you like how it tastes.
  2. Eat high water content food like fruits and vegetables. 20% of our fluid intake comes from our foods.
  3. Have a beverage with every snack and meal.
  4. Go for non-caloric beverages or water if you’re watching calories.
  5. Keep a bottle of water with you in your car, at your desk, or in your bag.

The Dark Knight: The Man Blog Staff Review

Hi, I'm Ade, and in this here article I shall attempt to bring together the TMB monkeys so that we can sit down and attempt to write a respectable review of the most badass movie to ever hit cinemas, The Dark Knight.

Basically, The Dark Knight goes this way: The Joker (Heath Ledger) appears out of nowhere, all hell breaks loose, and Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) must stop the mob. In the middle of it all, Bruce Wayne/Batman (Christian Bale) stops having unprotected sex with young nubile gymnast boys and must put a butt plug in the Joker to save the day. Or not.
